Story Behind The Song
Frosty was leaving home for the first time to go to college at Kansas State University and he recalls the long 2-hour trip that he drove. Lyrics
"KANSAS TOWN"
(F. Lawson)
© FLAWSON PUBLISHING
(Verse 1)
Drivin' down old Highway 54,
I've been here a thousand times before.
Every time I pass by-a little tear in my eye,
Finds its way down my cheek and to the ground.
(Verse 2)
I remember when I left home to go to school,
I couldn't wait to make up my own rules.
Thought I was in control-but the truth is my soul,
Was still back home in that peaceful KANSAS TOWN.
(Chorus)
Like the back of my hand-I'm a part of this land I call home,
All the memories started here.
And no matter where I live-
I will never ever give up that 'Kansas' part of me I hold so near.
(Verse 3)
All the New York City lights just can't compare,
To watching sunsets on the farm out there.
And the only sound I hear-is the wind whispering in my ear,
Welcome back to your peaceful KANSAS TOWN.
(Chorus)
Like the back of my hand-I'm a part of this land I call home,
All the memories started here.
Yes I know I have changed-
But that 'Kansas' part remains deep inside of me,
That's the only thing that's clear.
(Solos)
(Verse 3)
Don't get me wrong-I love the Jersey shore,
But when the day is done, I still want more.
And the only I see, is that place I long to be,
In the fields of my little KANSAS TOWN
You see this voice in my ear-says my heart belongs right here,
In the cradle of my sleepy KANSAS TOWN.
