Mary Jean

Story Behind The Song

This is actually based on a true story. It was very touching and it pretty much didn't work out for the lad, but it sure inspired this song. It began as a 12 bars Blues, but Tony Quarrington thought we should mix things up a little, so he suggested a Rhumba beat...and so now we have a Blues Rhumba, which we should really dedicate to Alex.

Lyrics

Verse 1
I was barely sixteen
When I met Mary Jean And for me it was love at first sight I was barely sixteen
She had long golden hair And her eyes were jade green And she glowed like a soft lantern light
She had long golden hair And her eyes were jade green And she glowed like a soft lantern light

Verse 2
She was wearing blue jeans, and they fit her so right .. She was the best that I'd seen
I was caught in her spell And I just couldn't tell If the time it was morning or night....
I was caught in her spell And I just couldn't tell If the time it was morning or night....
12 bar instrumental break
Verse 3
Then she smiled at me And I thought I would die ... My world went into a spin

But my love was doomed And it would have to end .... Mary Jean was my mother's best friend
But my love was doomed And it would have to end .... Mary Jean was my mother's best friend
