The song came from a friend's story. She and this guy had obviously had feelings for each other a long time but lived in different cities in Florida so they didn't see each other much. He finally admitted his obvious feelings after knowing each other about a year and a half. A short week later, he told her he liked someone else and then disappeared. However, he got the short end of the stick because he only lasted with the other girl a couple days.

The song is sung from the point of view of someone who waited a long time for a guy to tell them how they felt. After they admitted their feelings, the guy changed their mind and went after someone else.
