Muktown

Story Behind The Song

grew up in town of 4000-- Mukwonago in southeastern Wisconsin. Descibes the beginnings of my old band, why i started the band at age 16, our first show, our 1st tour, our desire to play out, road trip stories & nostalgia, homesickness. Wrote the song when i was 22 with a pop song in mind, but knowing it might never become a pop song because of the obscure references to places unknown to most. obscure Christian refernce buried in the song may also never be recognized.

Lyrics

MUKTOWN

Sixteen and sick of being pushed around by the man,
Silverchair on the radio so I take a stand,
Gather up souls to compose the rock band,
Gotta get to gigs in the minivan
The Bandstand was the 1st place we played,
And at the jazz & java was the 1st two-dollar bill that we made,
Play anywhere even at the arcade,
But unlike C, we never played in the parade,
Made the grade without playin charade,
While some cats rap whack just to get paid,
Maybe they?re the injury and I?m the 1st aid,
Maybe I just don?t want the green light to fade,
Maybe I never wanna be stuck in Muk-town,
In a rut, drivin my goals into the ground,
Come back around with an uppercut to knock ?em down
Or I could stay underground to define my own sound

(chorus)
Vernon Marsh to the Kettle Moraine, wanna go? yeah you know my name
Field Park to Phantom Lake--sing an ode to the back road I take
Beulah Bog, Frog Alley too ?campout after the barbecue
Goin to the best boonies around as I ride my bike southbound through muktown

Was it the allure of goin on my 1st tour out west?
It was the best but we were poor and on a quest,
?What a metaphor! But I craved for more,
cuz it was fun to misbehave and explore,
the outermost doors of our lost youth,
long ago we flew the coop but we could never recoup the lost time
I got lost in the fine print in the middle of this rhyme,
And left my high-school friends behind only to find,
I wanted them to follow me to the show
The caravan plans are at hand so lets go
On a road cruise, spreading news good for bruised souls,
Then we can return home to a place we all know

22 and been screwed by the man
Ignorance on the radio so I take a stand
Gather up souls to compose the rock band
And the plan is to jam?
