There?s nothing worse for a child than rain on Saturday
So we packed 'em up and headed for the mall
For a bite to eat and the latest Disney matinee
The time together would be good for us all

As we waited in the line to make a left turn
Those red lights seem to know when I?m running behind
We saw a young girl standing on the corner
Soaking wet and holding up a sign

Though I didn?t try to read it through the window glare
Her face sent the message loud and clear

Well the light changed and I drove around the parking lot
Looking for a spot close to the door
My daughter asked what the girl had written on her sign
And what she waited on that corner for

I told her she was looking for a helping hand
A job or some money for some food
She thought about what Jesus said in Sunday school
To love your neighbor as I have loved you

And as I shook the rain from my umbrella
She turned and asked me ?Daddy, what about you??

Right then the thought of seeing a movie
With our candy and our popcorn just seemed wrong
So we turned around and went back to the corner
But the young girl that was standing there was gone

Well I picked up the sign from the wet grass
And looked at what she wanted me to read
And just like me the people just kept driving by
Thinking that the sign belonged to me

Soaking wet and I got back into my car
My wife?s eyes mirrored the strange look on my face
As she read the soggy cardboard in my trembling hands
And the three words that the rain could not erase
