Story Behind The Song
Singer/songwriter Elisabeth Genco was asked by friends of various ministries, Project Yes You Can!, a federally funded abstinence project at Columbus Hospital in Newark NJ; the "NJ Physicians Advisory Group", a non-profit organization which provides fact-based information and education regarding teen sexual activity; and LIFENET, an organization which spreads the message of the sanctity of human life and the benefits of sexual purity, to write a song which would encourage young people to save sex for marraige. With God's help and the talents of Marissa, Matt and Marcia DiPietro, the song "I'm Gonna Wait" was birthed. The arrangement and vocals were performed by Matt and Marissa (brother and sister), and their mom, Marcia, an accomplished musician and Worship Minister at Bristol Assembly of God church orchestrated the arrangement.
Song Description
It is our prayer that the lyrics of "I'm Gonna Wait" will echo in the minds of those who are considering becoming sexually active. Wonderful benefits do await those who "wait" and unfortunately, life-changing and dangerous consequences can await those who choose to become sexually active at a young age and with multiple partners. If you think you would be "alone" in your choice to remain sexually abstinent until marriage, here is a statistic which may surprise you. According to a national abstinence initiative called "True Love Waits", which began in 1993, more than 2.4 million youth have signed pledge cards, thereby making personal commitments to save sex for marriage.
