Story Behind The Song
The entire drumfish 3rd CD, Under Under Hill, is about the breakup of the band. The songs are about the turmoil that led to the breakup and the emotional fall out after everything fell apart. Don't Walk Away was written about 6 months after the band officially parted ways. It's about wishing the band could have kept going and feeling helpless without the band in your life.
This songs talks about "hands" a lot and that is always an analogy for the band itself. Losing the band was like losing a part of ourselves. "I have to play without my hands and hope my feet will understand" is one of those lines. It means we've lost some of the most vital parts of our lives and we need to continue on somehow by substituting other things that aren't as fulfilling.
The band had broken up with only 2 CD's to its name. This song is partially what inspired the recording of the third CD. Larry got the idea that he wanted to do another CD because there was a lot of good material that needed to be put to tape. At first the idea was to do it himself because the members of the band had not spoken to each other in 6 months after the fairly bitter separation. But one day the band's old web master, Ken Kauffman told Larry that he was going to see Alex host an open mic and he asked Larry if he wanted to go. Larry said yes and went to the open mic unannounced. Alex was happy to see him and they ended up playing together that night. It was the beginning of reconciliation between the two of them.
Larry later explained his plan to do a 3rd CD and Alex was very eager to join in on the project. The two of them approached the others about collaborating to do one more CD. They said yes and the CD was made. After much debate and a coin flip, Don't Walk Away became the first track because of its catchy intro and overall quality.

Lyrics
I'll leave the caution up to you
The wind will have to pull me through
I have to play without my hands
And hope my feet will understand
They walk without me anyway
And when they're tired they will say
(Chorus) Don't walk away from the places you know
Need to be on my side
Don't walk away from the places you know
Follow me this time
I'll leave the curtains up for you
The calling warm still rings untrue
My hands have left and gone away
But with out them I still play
They're taken back again by you
Just be aware when they tell you
(Chorus)
Can you whisper you're line
Cuz I can hear you wasting time
Whenever you decide to follow mine
(Chorus) 2x
