Story Behind The Song

My 3-year old daughter was dealing with the imminent death of her great- grandmothers. She asked me what happens to them when they die, and I basically paraphrased a number of religious and spiritual beliefs into a practical statement that "they are always with us." But I decided the song would sound better as if written from the dead grandparent's (or parent's) perspective. I also wanted the message to be more universal to range from something even a God-like figure could say as comfort to the living (as a religious perspective) or as simply as a living parent who is separated from a child for whatever length of time (whether it be a day or months).

Song Description

This is a country/rock/pop song written from the perspective of a parent who is away from his/her child (or really any loved one), explaining that we are always with each other in spirit; and that no matter how lonely one may feel in this world at any given moment, there are always those who love us and offer a connection to the past and future that can be used to help us feel confident that we are who we are for a reason.
