Story Behind The Song
Ironically, "About Mexico" tells the story of a guy who fell in love in Mexico once and now can't stand to hear songs about Mexico as they take him back to that time, and the young French girl he lost there.
Song Description
"About Mexico" is a mid-tempo, contemporary Country track about everybody having a song about Mexico in their catalog, and a guy that's had enough of them. To him they just remind him of "the one who got away" after a steamy summer in Mexico.

Lyrics
ABOUT MEXICO
Mark Patterson © 2025
A Parisienne dancer from across the Atlantic
She was the last of the hopeless romantics
Found herself by the Mexican sea
And by no small measure of providence
That's where she fell in with me
For one Yucatan summer we were thicker than thieves
But the sun and mezcal had us both deceived
Because sooner or later as the custom goes
Somebody's gotta leave
So don't ask me if she's still there
The question is would she still care
Just take me down to the old saloon
I'll buy a round if you'll play a tune
Just make sure it's something
That'll light up the room
Cause I don't need a song about Mexico
To remind me of all of those years ago
Don't they know
That's where stories get started
But that's no place to end
It's not for the broken-hearted
Or those of us on the mend
All the legends who came to harm there
Pancho and Cassady bought the farm there
They still live in our memories
But that's not where the story ends
Oh no not for me
So don't ask me if she's still there
The question is would she still care
Just take me down to the old saloon
I'll buy a round if you'll play a tune
Just make sure it's something
That'll light up the room
Cause I don't need a song about Mexico
To remind me of all of those years ago
Don't they know
That's where stories get started
But that's no place to end
It's not for the broken-hearted
Or those of us on the mend
All the legends who came to harm there
Pancho and Cassady bought the farm there
They still live in our memories
But that's not where the story ends
Oh no not for me
No that's not where the story ends
Oh no not for me
