Story Behind The Song
Dick Wagner had originally written the song in 1968. As Wagner says, "At first I was reluctant to present the song to Alice, since it was a ballad and with Alice being the king of shock rock, and I doubted he would be interested in a ballad. Much to my pleasure he loved what I had written and so Only Women Bleed came to be in 1974.
Only Women Bleed was a title and concept that Alice had long wanted to write. When we finished writing the song, we knew we had touched upon a subject worth exploring, domestic violence.
More than 25 artists have since recorded this song, but I believe this version by Wensday is the most expressive and compelling version of all. When I was recording Wensday on this tune, I was pleasantly surprised to discover her passionate feelings concerning Domestic Violence and her active work in speaking out against the emotional and physical crime that is Domestic Violence. And so, I decided to come up with a new verse for the song that would speak more directly to women all over the world. Wensday's heartfelt rendition of Only Women Bleed has made me, the co-writer, come to a new appreciation of what was in 1975 deemed 'the women's liberation song of the year' by Gloria Steinem."

Song Description
More than 40 years after writing the song with Alice Cooper, Dick Wagner produced this updated and gospel-inflected version of Only Women Bleed with passionate Torch Rocker, WENSDAY, in 2007. To update and enhance the message for women world-wide, Wagner wrote a new verse added to this recording:
"I'm a woman! And I speak to all the women in America!
All the women in Afghanistan, all the women in Africa!
To the women of the world, Don't let your man bring you down, Just kick that jackass out of town! Stand up for yourself, And don't let your man hurt you. Just call on your sisters, and your sisters will be there!"

Lyrics
Only Women Bleed
Man's got his woman to take his seed
He's got the power
She's got the need
She spends her life through pleasing up her man
She feeds him dinner or anything she can
She cries alone at night too often
He smokes and drinks and don't come home at all
Only women bleed, only women bleed
Only women bleed, only women bleed
Man makes your hair gray
He's your life's mistake
When all you're really lookin for is an even break
He lies right at you
You know you hate this game
He slaps you once in awhile and you live and love in pain
She cries alone at night too often
He smokes and drinks and don't come home at all
Only women bleed, only women bleed
Only women bleed, only women bleed
Only women bleed, only women bleed
Only women bleed
Black eyes all of the time
Don't spend a dime
Clean up this grime
And you there, down on your knees, begging me please
Come watch me bleed
Only women bleed, only women bleed
Only women bleed, only women bleed
Only women bleed, only women bleed
Only women bleed, only women bleed
I'm a woman! And I speak to all the women in America!
All the women in Afghanistan, all the women in Africa!
To the women of the world, don't let your man bring you down,
Just kick that jackass out of town!
Stand up for yourself, stand up for yourself,
And don't let your man hurt you
Just call on your sisters, and your sisters will be there!
Only women bleed, only women bleed
Only women bleed, only women bleed
Only women bleed, only women bleed
Only women bleed
