Lyrics
Coonhuntin' Blues
Verse 1:
Well me and my buddy are coonhuntin' pals. We do a lot of travelin to hear a dog howl.
But there's nothing finer then to hear a hound run and tree that four-legged son-of-gun.
Chorus
Now are wives do a lot of groanin and a moanin. They say "Can't ya all stay home & stop all this roamin."
But once us boys get that fever it's true our ole ladies get the coonhuntin blues.
Verse 2:
Now my old red dog he might be slow but when he hits a track "it's" coon ya know.
Now my buddy has this bluetick dog he can fan a track through the thickest of fog.
Verse 3:
When coon season is just about to close we talk of the coons that got away by a nose.
The women their wantin to go out on the town we think up a story and find a place to lay down.
Verse 4:
We've got a lot of work that we ought to do but there's new dogs to look at and traders to view.
It's a hopeless case for the coonhunters' wife to stop a man a huntin. It's his way of life.
