Lyrics

Goodnight Wherever You Are

Haven't told a single soul
Though I'm tempted to talk it out
Had a feeling you'd be back
But my feelings are having doubts
When I wake I think I feel you
But I always stretch too far
I never rest my head
Until I've said
Goodnight wherever you are

My old car is running fine
And I finally lost ten pounds
And even though the bed's all mine
I'm still acting like it's ours
When I wake I think I feel you
But I always stretch too far
I never rest my head
Until I've said
Goodnight wherever you are

Goodnight in the mirror
Good night to your old robe
I'm doing things like you were here
And wishing it were so
At times I laugh at your old jokes
Those who know know why
People who love forever
Find better things to do than cry

I've got time to do more things
I'm out with friends all night
Thankful for these tender mercies
Till I turn out the light
Just tonight I felt a chill
So I wished on one more star
I never rest my head
Until I've said
(Spoken)
Goodnight
Wherever you are

Very appropriate melody. I can easily imagine this simple and pure tune be sung to my little 2 yo angel, as he is getting asleep after a busy day. The lyrics are calming down and the sober instrumentation at the guitar could not be more delicate. Thank you for inspiring me.

I was so impressed with the way you expertly crafted this song. You really hit the mark with your original lyric writing and heartfelt delivery. Your loneliness seeped from every note. Loved the word pictures....saying goodnight to the mirror and your old robe, still laughing at your old jokes. The bit about the old car and losing 10 lbs....it's all so real. I also liked the consistency of the rhyming structure...rhyming all those lines with "are". They were simple, but perfect. I love songs that tell a story well. Touche!
