The Sound of Trains

Story Behind The Song

I heard a Morrissey lyric in a song by The Smiths which said ' The sound of trains is such a sad sound' and that was the starting point for the song. Then I thought about the taxi stand outside Carlisle railway station and the people who queued there late at night. From there the song came together.

Lyrics

Through the night
The sound of trains
In the air
The scent of rain
Cold as stone
I crumble like ice
I'm alone
Alone

Midnight taxi
From the station bar
And the street-lights sparkle
On my journey home
'Turn the sound down
That would be so nice
Take me home
Home

'Ask me out, just like last time
Ask me out, that would be fine'
Not a shadow of doubt crosses my mind
You'd love a dreamer
All the world loves a dreamer

Through the night
The sound of trains
In the air
Just the breathe of rain
Cold as stone
I crumble like ice
Take me home
Home

Through the night
The sound of trains

The first few lines and I was already thinking "wow, this is good professional stuff!". It's very well produced like anything of radio commercial quality. I can't find much fault to it. The vocal's strong, expressive, instrumentations well balanced well suited to this type of genre. The lyric's pretty good. It definitely has potential for commercial use - maybe as soundtracks for TV or film.
