Story Behind The Song
A Daniel Lanois style production, inspired by Dylan's Time Out of Mind, collecting various images of the end of the road, farewell to youth etc. Ironically, written on a beautiful morning during a happy weekend in friend's flat.
Song Description
A series of images of death - the end of the road - with a chain gang worksong feel. A female backing vocal softens the mood. The song stops between verses while the main line of the next verse is announced.

Lyrics
They stopped me at the roadblock, I never made the town
I showed my cards I showed my name,
they said You people are all the same
The fallen leaves by the river Ayr yellow in the rain
I walked this path so many times
One day soon this will all be mine
I broke the old white stallion, now he's grazing in the yard
I call his name, he turns his head
One day soon we'll both be dead
Tomorrow I'll be far away, and you won't know I'm gone
I'm going south I'm going south
In the chains that put these songs in my mouth
They stopped me at the roadblock, I never made the town
I showed my cards I showed my name,
they said You people are all the same
I broke the old white stallion, now he's grazing in the yard
I call his name, he turns his head
One day soon we'll both be dead
