Story Behind The Song
My friend and one of my favorite songwriters, Bill Coffey, and I had been looking for an excuse to write together. A big holiday concert, put on by renowned recording artist Curtis Stigers, was coming up and we decided to write something specifically for that event. This was the result-- a heartwarming exploration of the holiday season.
Song Description
This song explores the sentiments and imagery of the holiday season, such as kids excited about Christmas morning, everyone hoping for snow, big dinner party gatherings of friends and family, and sitting by the fireplace with a loved one.

Lyrics
The air grows cold, nights grow longer
and the day begins hours before dawn
But here inside, we're all gathered
We're drinking and singing old songs
So don't be shy, come play a tune for us
'cuz this ain't no Silent Night
It all comes back the moment that you feel
the fire's warm glow
the hoping for snow
the children's delight
These are things that make the season bright
Naked tree bows bobbing in rhythm
as winter plays autumn's reprise
We all sit 'round the big kitchen table
with the smells of the gathering feast
So don't be shy, give us a story
and please don't leave anything out
You belong right here beside us
with the fire's warm glow
the hoping for snow
the children's delight
These are things that make the season bright
Bright are the stars
They seem to hang, hang from the trees
So beautiful how the window panes freeze
Now we've filled up the house
and fogged all the windows
but there's always room for one more
An open door invites you into
the fire's warm glow
the hoping for snow
the children's delight
These are things that make the season bright
Now the ham's almost gone
The tea's in the kettle
and a smile is in everyone's eyes
So don't be shy, come sit beside me
with the fire's warm glow
the hoping for snow
the children's delight
These are things that make the season bright
