The song was written around 1980 for the birth of my second daughter, who we found out later has Rett Syndrome. We were trying for a beautiful poetic honor for her arrival.

The song describes some of the magic of a baby and the interactions with the baby and recognizes the spiritual gift that is the baby.

Lyrics
ROCK THE CRADLE
First impressions will gleam in your memory
Like moonlight on the snow
A baby's hand reaches out warm to grasp
For all that she hopes to know.
A baby moves in eternity
Unafraid to begin
As pure and simple as the words "I trust you"
Spoken by honest men.
CHORUS:
Rock the cradle once again, Honey
So our child will sleep softly and well
I'll fashion a trinket of soft silver starlight
For this small piece of Heaven that fell.
A baby's eyes stare out upon the world
So much to understand
She'll reach for the one whose comfort she's known
The touch of a parent's hand.
A baby tends to forget those times
But our memories will cherish the scene
Of her first steps on the diamond highway
Bordered by vision and dream.
Rock the cradle once again, Honey
So our child will sleep softly and well
I'll fashion a trinket of soft silver starlight
For this small piece of Heaven that fell.
