Lyrics

A hundred years ago
A young boy worked a farm
Fed the stock, did the chores
Earning his pay
The farmer and his family
Were headed into to town
He gave the boy, a shiny dime
To celebrate the day

It was the Fourth of July
And when his chores were done
The young boy headed home
And was greeted by his mom
He said, "Let's walk to town and celebrate the day
But his mom was tired and said, "No son,
Go on your way

So he walked three miles to town
And walked three miles back
Bought lemons with his dime
And put them in his pack
His mom and he made lemonade
And sat in the shade
A memory of his mom that time would never fade

Chorus;

It takes lemons to make lemonade
Lemons and sugar and water pure and cool
Every time I make it, I think about that boy
Toiling in the sun on a hot afternoon

Many years went by, he became my old granddad
And he told me stories of adventures he had had
He told me the story of that lemonade
And his love for his mom that the years would never fade
