Story Behind The Song
There is an African folk tale that the Hawk had a needle to sew other birds feathers onto their wings. The chicken borrowed it and lost it which is why it is always scratching in the dirt to find the needle and why the hawk hates it and wants to kill it. It is also why the chicken can't fly.
Song Description
A lament for freedom, ostensibly about a chicken and a hawk but more about a mans quest and wistfulness for a better life.

Lyrics
Find Me a Needle
Find me a needle, sew me some wings,
I wanna fly with the angels, forget everything,
Wanna fly over the mountains, just want to be free,
Soar over the clouds, be what I want to be.
And I don't want to scratch in the dirt no more,
Like others of my kind,
Don't want to scratch in the dirt no more,
Won't let you control my mind
The hawk is watching, floats high in the sky,
He sees me crying, hears me asking why
I Just ask for a needle to sew me some wings,
Want to fly with the angels, forget everything
And I don't want to scratch in the dirt no more,
Like others of my kind,
Don't want to scratch in the dirt no more,
Won't let you control my mind
Find me a needle, sew me some wings,
I wanna fly with the angels, forget everything,
Wanna fly over the mountains, just want to be free,
Soar over the clouds, be what I want to be.
And I don't want to scratch in the dirt no more,
Like others of my kind,
Don't want to scratch in the dirt no more,
Won't let you control my mind
Just want to be free,
Be what I want to be
Just want to be free.
