Texacan Love (Alt. Country - from "Taxi To Tonganoxie")

Song Description

"Taxi To Tonganoxie", is the only CD of Chet Nichols' music that features full back-up bands in the studio. The material on this CD was recorded, engineered and co-produced by Stephen Barncard in two different studios back in the early and mid 1970's. The songs, "Paper Burns" and "You Were They And They Were You" were recorded at Wally Heider's studio in San Francisco. The other tunes were recorded at Stephen Barncard's home in the hills above Beverly Glen in Los Angeles. The back-up band at the Beverly Glen location consisted of a fabulous group of artists: Laura Allan (Laura Allen)- vocals, Fuzzy Oxendine - drums (Sons, Grape, Jerry Miller Band, etc), Wayne Goodwyn on Fiddle, lap steel (Emmylou), Ricky Wallace, Estrella Berosini - vocals and Billy Berosini - bass (Jackson Browne, Brewer & Shipley). Chet played acoustic guitar, dulcimer, electric guitar and piano. Even Stephen got in on the act and made an appearance playing bass! The Heider sessions consisted of Buddy Cage - pedal steel guitar (New Riders of The Purple Sage), Pete Sears - bass (New Riders Of The Purple Sage, Jefferson Starship) and Spenser Dryden - drums (The Airplane, The New Riders Of The Purple Sage). Even though this collection of tunes is almost 35 years old, people are still discovering it, enjoying it and sharing it.

Verse 1
I was in a Texas bar having a beer
When a soft voice that was near
Said, "Come here stranger and give me a hug
And I'll give you some Texacan Love
So, good that Texacan love
Texacan love

Verse 2
She was a sweet senorita
Raised below the borderline
But, now she homes in Austin
That's why they call her The Texacan
She said, "I'm gonna leave you howling.
Chester, you'll be barking on the stairs."
Saying, "It ain't fair."
You'll be howling and screaming for....
More Texacan Love
Gotta have my Texacan love
It's hot and spicy,Texacan love

Verse 3
I said, "You don't have to worry, babe
"Cause I live my life from day-to-day
I just don't seem to take it when the meal's the same
"Cause my head gets small and my feet get big
And I move on to a different gig
But, as for now, right now, I want ....
More Texacan Love
Gotta have my Texacan love
I want and need it, Texacan love

Verse 4
I had to leave that Texas town and point my thumb up North
I hear there're clubs in Chicago, guess I'll see what they are worth
Yeah, she said that she hated to see me go
But, she knew where I was at
And if I was ever around again, the key was underneath the mat
Ohhhhh....Texacan Love
Gotta have some Texacan love
I want and need it, Texacan love
It's hot and spicy,Texacan love
So, good, Texacan love
Texacan love

Funky little country blues with a really nice arrangement and overall feel and vibe.

The vocals were really good and the backup vocals were too. The song is very catchy. Nice slide guitar. The instrumentation is very good. Great tune, keep it up!!!

The song has good appeal and a great general feel but it should be categorized in Southern Rock, Classic Rock, or Blues/Rock. The vocals are good and the mix is overall spread in the soundscape where they should be.

i like it a lot different. great for country market

To me this was more of a southern rock song than a country. It had a country vibe, similar to Jimmy Buffet's style. It gave me that beach club kind of vibe. It could cross over into different genres. I liked the melody, it was fun upbeat and a fun song. It was a very nice song. Great guitar work at the end. You did a good job on it.

This was nice. I liked the mixture of the acoustic and dirty slide guitar. The busy bass and the guitar counter themes accompanied the main vocal nicely. I thought the backing vocal harmonies added a nice touch as well. The song transitioned between the parts well and I liked the guitar outro you did as well.

Different it grows on you.

I like it....fun.
