Story Behind The Song
Toward the end of his life when Louis came to my college in Oregon to perform, I got to interview him. When I asked him how he had lost so much weight he gave me a diet chart and a pack of "Swiss Kriss Laxative." He said, "my secret is you eat whatever you want then take this Swiss Kriss and flush it right through you, heh, heh, heh. He said, "when I play high I think low and when I play low I think high but the important thing is not to think too much. It's like playing pool, you don't want to think too much." It was a thrill to visit with him.

Lyrics
LOUIS
Louis,
You were a hero to me
Music to you was like honey to a bee
You never took yourself too seriously
Sachmo, you were a natural
Louis,
Your band was second to none
Billy Kyle, Edmund Hall and Trummy Young
Stompin' At The Savoy" or on sugar hill
No one could touch you noone ever will
I miss you Louis now where did you go
I guess the Lord likes music so he booked your show
If there's a heaven and you're playing there
I'll betcha old gabriel's playing second chair to
Louis,
The whole world loved you a lot
Loved your spirit and your "les jazz hot"
I wanta thank you for the joy you brought
To us,
Louis
