Story Behind The Song
"I wrote this song after spending a great day in NYC with my (then) fiancee. Oddly enough, it started out "simple" in both lyric and musical content, but in the studio, layers were added to make this song one of the fan favorites off of "Skeleton Keys"." - BL
Song Description
This song starts out describing an ideal "simple" day with a wonderful woman. As the song progresses, the day becomes more and more complex...but the feelings remain the same. It's a longing for a day where everything in the world could just stop and you can spend time with the person who is most important to you, without any worries in the world.

Lyrics
I begin my simple day with you
Chai at the coffee shop down on 2nd Avenue
Open up my Vonnegut for a different point of view
And you raise your eyes for a second or two
The crossword speaks to me in boxes of grey
Subtle sounds of my pencil as it scratches and plays
Your lips touch the cup in the most delicate of ways
Never thought simple could be as special as today.
It?s a life like this we need
It?s a life we wish we could lead
When the world comes crashing down on me
You make me free.
No talk to politics or threats of a war
Thoughts dwell on you and me and what there is in store
Not even flinching at the knocking on the door
You just rest your head on my chest, like before.
The breeze in the room feels like a blessing to our skin
No anger to displace and no blame upon to pin.
Don?t even feel the pain of the world, but within
We can feel our pulses beat to rhythm of twins.
It?s a life like this we need
It?s a life we wish we could lead
When the world comes crashing down on me
You make me free.
Waking up without the alarm, rising and keeping breakfast warm
Don?t even think to put the TV on. Wonder if these days will soon be gone?
Ani speaks to us like a familiar friend
The sangria moonlight leaves nothing to pretend
We hold each other?s hearts, to ravish or to rend
And we find the beginning felt much like the end.
It?s a life like this we need
It?s a life we wish we could lead
When the world comes crashing down on me
You make me free.
