Story Behind The Song
The title had been brewing in my mind for a shameful number of years. Once the kids were grown I put Beam Me Up Scotty on the table and went to work.
Song Description
I was drawn to the most fun approach incorporating things I love out of our American history from the cowboy and his cattle songs, to our country capitals of Texas, Bakersfield and Nashville, to events the demise of country music would eliminate in the dreamer's mind. The twist of course, the spoken words at the tag, show the dreamer is talking to the bartender.

Lyrics
6/06 Beam Me Up Scotty V.Penny Gottsche
Beam me up outa this daydream, I had an awful fright
Supposing country music went bye-bye
No sawdust floors no honky tonk, sweet love songs or bonkadonk
No lonesome cowboy cry-yi-yippie-yi-o - ki-yippie-yi-ay
Beam Me Up Scotty, is what I'd say
The more I thought about it the worse it all became
No cryin' whining' pedal steel
No Bakersfield or old Nashville, heel and toe boot-scootin' feel
No lonesome cowboy cry-yi-yippie-yi-o - ki-yippie-yi-ay
Beam Me Up Scotty, is what I'd say
Beam Me Up Scotty, Mister please, won't you beam me on up
Beam Me Up Scotty outa this sad old world
If paradise was gone with the last good country song
No lonesome cowboy cry-yi-yippie-yi-o - ki-yippie-yi-ay
Beam Me Up Scotty, is what I'd say
The trickle down effect was a nightmare at best
Not a saddle horse left to ride.
No Texas songs or cotton-eyed Joe, campfire strummin' to do-si-do
No lonesome cowboy cry-yi-yippie-yi-o - ki-yippie-yi-ay
Beam Me Up Scotty, is what I'd say
Beam Me Up Scotty, Mister please, won't you beam me on up
Beam Me Up Scotty outa this sad old world
If paradise was gone with the last good country song
No lonesome cowboy cry-yi-yippie-yi-o - ki-yippie-yi-ay
Beam Me Up Scotty, is what I'd say
If paradise was gone with the last good country song
No lonesome cowboy cry-yi-yippie-yi-o - ki-yippie-yi-ay
Beam Me Up Scotty, is what I'd say
(spoken) Please....hold the ice!!
