Story Behind The Song
Bill doesn't like to fly so on one trip to Las Vegas he decided to take a bus. These are his observations.
Song Description
The song compares life to riding a bus. It hints that no matter where you start, somehow you wind up back there again. The schedule is uncertain. The people you are surrounded by are always strangers and the no matter how well prepared you are there are always surprises. Riding a bus can be a great opportunity for reflection. Unfortunately when you reflect the realizations are not what you might like them to be.

Lyrics
GREYHOUND
It seems some things will never change
You recognize it all
The wooden bench and beat up bags
The schedule on the wall
You take your place among the faces
No one ever knows
You've packed up all your worldly goods
And took off for the road.
There's a guy who's going to Texas
If he only had the fare
Says his dream job is there waiting
If he could only get there
So he asks to use your cell phone
But your battery is dead
"I can't seem to get a break"
Was the last thing that he said
You're waiting for departure
You're late when you arrive
Can't even get a seatbelt
On the Greyhound
There's a woman from New Orleans
Her speech says further east
It's dark outside the window
She sits in the next seat
She's moving to Las Vegas
But she'll miss her grand kids so
She'll fly out there every month
To their home on the coast
You're waiting for departure
You're late when you arrive
Can't even get a seatbelt
On the Greyhound
After years of working on myself
I'm back here on this bus
Though I tell myself I've changed
But it's not them, it's us
When this feeling gets inside you
You find it tough to breathe
You're looking for a way out
You try so hard to leave
You're waiting for departure
And you're late when you arrive
Can't even get a seatbelt
On the Greyhound of life
