Story Behind The Song
My children Judah, Suzannah and Chris live on the Gulf Coast just east of Biloxi. My daughter Suzannah and son Chris both lost all they owned and their mobile homes. I was communicating with them by cell phone and email during and after the disaster. My son Judah made a remark about how you find out what's really important when a hurricane strikes.
Song Description
Song tells how people in America gave money and donated time to help victims of Hurricane Katrina. And about how disasters teach us what is really important in life, the people we love not the possessions we own.

Lyrics
Millions had to flee from their Mississippi homes,
In Louisiana some stayed in the Super Dome.
The day the levies broke and flooded New Or-leans
Only rooftops could be seen.
Like a sleeping giant awakened with a start,
America stood up that day and showed it had a heart.
People helping people compassion needed most,
A lesson in love from the Gulf Coast.
Angry winds hit the shore with a hundred forty mile force,
Eight-teen foot waves, a raging hurricane
You find out what?s important when the winds like demons roar
On August 29th Katrina pounded the Gulf Shore. (2x)
All across America we watched it on TV
Volunteers from the Red Cross and Salvation Army.
Over rooftops in New Orleans, helicopters flew,
Carrying rescue crews.
People will rebuild life will go on again,
Broken lives, broken dreams & broken hearts to mend.
You?ll find your greatest treasures in those you love the most
A lesson in love from the Gulf Coast.
Angry winds hit the shore with a hundred forty mile force.
Eighteen foot waves, a raging hurricane.
People gave and people prayed, gave help where need most,
A lesson in love from the Gulf Coast. (2x)
