Lyrics
WHY
A SMALL COUNTRY FARMBOY HOLDS ONTO HIS DADDYA'S HAND, AND BUSTINA' WITH PRIDE HIS DADDY SHOWS HIM THE LAND; THAT HE CLEARED AND HE WORKED SINCE HE WAS A VERY YOUNG MAN.
YOU PUT YOUR BLOOD IN THIS SOIL BOY, AND IT WONA'T BLOW AWAY LIKE SOME SAND.
AND AS HE GREW UP, THE BOY WORKED ALONGSIDE HIS DAD, AND THE OLD MAN TRIED TO GIVE HIM ALL OF THE KNOWLEDGE HE HAD.
IN FARMINA' HE TOLD HIM, THEREA'S A TIME TO LIVE, AND TO DIE, AND NOT UNDERSTANDINA' THE YOUNG BOY LOOKED UP AND SAID A"WHY?A"
THE YEARS JUST FLEW BY AND ONE DAY THE BOY LEFT THE FARM. HE SAID DONA'T WORRY DAD, FOR I WONA'T COME TO NO HARM.
YOU KNOW I LOVE THIS FARM, AND I LOVE MY COUNTRY TOO, AND THEY NEED ME SOMEWHERE TO FIGHT FOR THE RED, WHITE, AND BLUE.
AND OFF HE DID GO TO SOME FARAWAY, STRANGE SOUNDINA' LAND.
HIS CHILD DAYS BEHIND HIM, GROWN INTO ONE FINE YOUNG MAN.
WHEREVER HEA'S NEEDED ALWAYS WILLINA' TO LEND A STRONG HAND,
BUT ONE DAY HIS BLOOD SPILLED, AND HE LAID THERE IN THAT CRIMSON SAND.
HE SAT ON HIS PORCH AS THE CAR PULLED INTO HIS YARD; A STRANGE LOOKINA' CAR WITH WRITINGS AND EMBLEMS AND STARS.
AND THEY TRIED TO EXPLAIN THAT THE TIME CAME FOR HIS BOY TO DIE.
AND NOT UNDERSTANDINA' THE OLD MAN LOOKED UP AND SAID A"WHY?A"
