Story Behind The Song
Was originally titled Legal High, when there were drugs with that (false) classification being sold openly in popup stores in the UK. After changes in the law, there were no such things as legal highs and the song became redundant. But I have always been concerned about the dangers of street drugs so finally got to rewrite and rerecord it now in 2023.
Song Description
Youngsters bending to peer pressure and becoming first time drug users, how did it end? "The paramedic's seen it all before"........

Lyrics
ONLY GETTING HIGH
© 2023 Lyrics & Music by Bob Bentley
Opening chord:
Key: D
BPM: 126
Verse One:
Her friends had tried it, so it must be good
It's on every corner, what can be so wrong
Been talking about it in the neighbourhood
She didn't want to look stupid so she went along
Verse Two:
She called the number, but she still had doubts
Her boy assured her it'll be OK
I know a source and it will all work out
He'll send a dummy, all you do is pay
Chorus:
Danger danger, are they deaf and blind
It could be poison in a cool disguise
Push the warnings to the back their minds
It'll be OK, they're only getting high
They're only getting high
Verse 3:
Off on their own to find a quiet place
Where they can take that powder that'll make them fly
They're not so sure now, but they won't lose face
A normal girl, an ordinary guy
Chorus:
Danger danger, are they deaf and blind
It could be poison in a cool disguise
Push the warnings to the back their minds
It'll be OK, they're only getting high
Bridge: Feel the rush, see the sights
They could be going anywhere tonight
Pull it down, take it in
Like a hand grenade, they've just removed the pin
It could be great but she's feeling bad
Her brains on fire, is she going mad
Can't slow down, it's flashing by
It should be fine it's just vanilla sky
Verse 4:
They're not aware of all the flashing lights
The paramedics seen it all before
Dear god don't let me die tonight
And the Dummy Man, he's just sold some more
Chorus:
Danger danger, is she deaf and blind
Was it poison in a cool disguise
Push those warnings to the back of your mind
It'll be OK they're only getting high
Danger danger, is she deaf and blind
Was it poison in a cool disguise
Push that warning to the back of your brain
It'll be OK, they're only getting high
They're only getting high
