Lyrics
Drinkin' With Jesus
© 2009 Bill Gaunce
I walked up to the corner
To the friendly liquor store
Grabbed a cheap Kentucky sour mash
And headed out the door
To a fishin' hole out beyond the tracks
Where I could drink it all alone
No woman flappin' tv yapin'
No damn telephone
I was only half way finished
When I must have closed my eyes
And dozed off for a minute then
Awakened by surprise - he had
Long hair beard and sandals
I ask is this some kind of a joke?
He said "high my name is Jesus
Then he ask me for a smoke
I said Jesus would you like a drink?
He said "I usually drink the good stuff"
Then he gave a wink
And I was drinkn' with Jesus
By the fishin' hole
He said "pass me the bottle,
And I'll save your soul"
We sat and talked for hours
Then he looked me in the eye
And said "things ain't looking good these days,
I ain't gonna lie - stabbin', shooting, Cheatin'
Greed a million fold
Why can't folks just sit and chill out
by a fishin hole?"
He said "go forth and tell the others
What happened here today
That you were drinkin' here with Jesus
And he had some things to say
Live like you'll die tomorrow
Live by the golden rule
Everything you need to know
You learned in Sunday school
Well my vision is still blurred
And my heads a little achy
Speech a little slurred
& hands a little shaky
But what's happened here today
Is a lesson to be told
You don't wanna go to hell
'cause there ain't no fishin' hole
