Lyrics

Little Journey

Music and lyrics by: Bill Dake 2012 ASCAP

I'm cookin'
Popcorn and chips for dinner
You're lookin'
For the perfect complimentary wine
In stocking feet
On a cold and wet and windy evening
Single file
To a friendly couch we'll shuffle

Fire's blazin'
Cat's dreamin' dreams of Egypt
She thinks she's Persian
But she's really just a mutt
You share your theory
On the current local situation
I try to listen
But your smile takes me someplace else

A Little Journey to
A silver beach 'neath a crescent moon
Toes buried deep
In a sand dune
I never stood a chance
You had me captured in advance
I fell
I fell easy

(Instrumental solo)

We took a Little Journey to
A grey cafe with a golden view
Sat and watched the seagulls duel
In swing time
When I finally made my plea
Think I did it brilliantly
'cause, you fell
And we got started

On our Little Journey
Think it's gonna last a long time
This bottle's empty, maybe we should retire.....
You know....take a little..."journey?"
Do you think we've spoiled this cat?

A harmonic and lyrical tapestry par excellence. My visit -- my little journey into the Review Songs feature today -- has paid off handsomely. Much gratitude, Sir!

Bill Dake uses his unique sense of humor and his unpredictable meter, phrasing and melody lines to weave a light hearted performance piece of lounge jazz that will make you smile and keep you entertained.

Always love your stuff and this one does not disappoint....

Very creative chord progression, a little touch of Steely Dan, which is a good thing. The songs shows a command of harmony. Nice break at 2:12 where the band drops out.

A masterpiece. The guitar work is beautiful. The song is sweet.

Absolutely Steely Dan influence here.... vocal performance good.

The melody is smooth, Steely Danish

Love it! I really like the guitar sound and playing, very well done. The vocals really fit this song so well, I hear some Al Jarreau in the tone which is a huge compliment. The arrangement/instrumentation is first class. Love the chord selection, very smooth and breezy. The lyrics are a nice touch, love the sense of whimsical which the playing also reflects.

So yeah, there's the guy ya know, I'm picturing him at the Improv with the spotlight on and he's singing to you about ... well ... how it happened. You'll get the whole story in the musical piece. From what I can gather, this is how it happened in jazz musical form.

This reminds me so much of the sounds of Steeley Dan or Michael Franks. Love this to pieces. Everything is mixed perfectly...vocals are dynamic and I just love the lyrics on this. I was riveted from start to finish. This is spectacular.

A very nice classy, jazzy song!! I enjoyed the vibe, vocals, lyrics & balance with the instrumentation!

Smooth performances all round in a very 1970's steely Dan or Michael Franks jazz/pop style. Nice chord progression, cool lyrics. Nicely done.
