Lyrics

Am I Doomed?
Doomed to be square
Went to the coolest schools
To learn the rules
But it's been getting me nowhere

Am I condemned
To live a life of "just fair"
Though I've hung with those
Other cats
Who knew where it's at
Still, I couldn't get there

Some people get it right
The first time
I never see the light 'till
Everyone's leavin'
And I'm barely breathin'
Am I Doomed?

Sometimes I feel lost
Doublecrossed
Consumed with the doubt
That this life will work out
As planned
Jammed
In a rut that's so deep
I look up, I see feet
Is there some tonic
Some magic brew
Or maybe a pill
That can help me break through
This fog I've been in
For so long, too long

Some people get it right
The first time
I never see the light 'till
Everyone's leavin'
And I'm barely breathin'
Am I Doomed

Gotta find a way
To reverse this trend
Or I'm
Doomed

Really cool jazzy piece with elements of blues, swing and contemporary elements. Really smooth and nice changes are familiar but have nice, fresh twists in places. The vocalist is a perfect match for this composition. The lyrics are clever and tell the tale that so many have when reflecting on life. Great tune!

Bill Dake is unpredictable and will keep you guessing what's coming next. Sit back and enjoy the musical trip.

Nice laid-back feel. I really like the minimal background instrumentation in the first verse as it builds up and fills in. The change at 2:45 is nice. Good guitar solo, too.

Theres thats Steely Dan. ish vibe again. great job

Laid back, hip, square in the best sense of the word. This artist definitely knows his stuff. Instrumentation solidly in service of the lyrics and melody. Tasteful guitar licks not overdone, perfectly placed. Vocal effective.

Sorry to say: yup, this guy's doomed to be square. (tee he...)

Excellent work.

Well done Jazz tune! Strong lyrically and well presented. Balanced production and well arranged. Good work!

Great Jazz groove. Reminds me a bit of Al Jarreau. Love it. Instruments and panning are great! Very professional musicianship. Loving that guitar - was wishing to hear the solo longer lol. Vocals and vocal melody is perfection! Great handle on the genre, I can tell you know your jazz. Great work!

Good lyrical content good overall sound.

nice fun funky groove... a tad loose. tighten it up and eq a bit better... but good job

Very nice Jazz/blues tune. Vocals are solid , in the style of Mose Allison, very nice guitar playing especially.

Bluesy sounding swing-jazz. Great instrumentation, nice full sound. The addition of the synth layer gives this a contemporary feel. Also great delivery from the vocalist.

Good clean intro. Very smooth melody and style. Singer is very convincing in his style and has originality. I like the first two bars in the section at 2:30 where a 3/4waltz feel was implied by the drums, that was cool. I dig the singer, his sound is great for the track.

interesting lyrics and vocals, nice live production. i felt there should have been a chord change or bridge at some stage but overall enjoyed ut
