Story Behind The Song
"Man of Sorrows" was inspired by Isaiah 53:3 (KJV): "He is despised and rejected of men; a man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief: and we hid as it were our faces from him; he was despised, and we esteemed him not."
Barbara Murrin was the conductor of Highest Praise, a ladies' a cappella chorus that sang together for approximately five years. During that time, the group travelled from British Columbia to Saskatchewan to put on church services, with their singing and with readings and scripture. Most of their performances were in the central Alberta area.
Barbara wrote and arranged many songs for the group, in which she also sang I Soprano (along with two others). Their CD, "Gifts of the Cross" was copyrighted and released in 2006. "Man of Sorrows" is the eighth track on the CD.

Lyrics
Verse 1:
He was a Man of Sorrows and acquainted well with grief,
Familiar with suff'ring, bowed by our iniquities.
Chorus:
Oppressed and afflicted, rejected and despised,
His love for us prevailing, on Calvary He died.
Verse 2:
His eyes full of compassion, there was healing in his hands,
Revealing God, the Father, so we might understand.
Chorus:
Oppressed and afflicted, rejected and despised,
His love for us prevailing, on Calvary He died.
Verse 3:
Torn from His Father's presence by the sin of all mankind,
O'er death He gained the vict'ry, and He was satisfied.
Chorus:
Oppressed and afflicted, rejected and despised,
His love for us prevailing, on Calvary He died.
