Venice Beach

Story Behind The Song

I payed my dues and tried to "make it" in LA as a songwriter and actress for six long years. I lived in the hood in Venice Beach and ran with models to celebrity parties in Bev Hills to performing with the riff raff on the boardwalk with street musicians.

Lyrics

Venice Beach

LA, Venice Beach, everyone's a star here.
LA, Venice Beach,
did I lose me in the moonlight
with waves dancing at my feet?
Did the warning you were throwing
slip past me as I turned to become a star?

City with no soul, winds without a still-
Beneath the sunny surface
rage a thousand stormy wills,
that haggle over egos and these funny little pills
that make you the best you can be.

What do you do when your dream drives you crazy
and the sunshine's way too bright?
Can't get lazy if you're gonna get famous,
they tell me it can happen overnight so-
I'm fighting stronger because I can;
I'm fighting dirty because I am
still in the game, don't you understand?
Every time you kick me down,
I come right back up again.
Every time you kick me down,
I come right back up again.

Sun's up; surfs down.
Today is the day I conquer Tinseltown.
There's people I should be sleeping with,
parties where I need to show.
It's not about the talent,
but about who you know.
So I'm bored by the Boardwalk, but I'm on TV!
Strung out over coffee and people I don't need.
If you got a hole in your soul, this is the best place to be.
Everyone in LA knows what it's like to be real hungry.

I see you in me; I see me in you,
crawling through the maze
for a dream that might come true.
All half naked, all hard-core,
stripped to the raw and ready for more....

What do you do when your dream drives you crazy
and the sunshine's way too bright?
Can't get lazy if you're gonna get famous,
they tell me it can happen overnight so-
I'm fighting stronger because I can;
I'm fighting dirty because I am
still in the game, don't you understand?
Every time you kick me down,
I come right back up again.
Every time you kick me down,
I come right back up again.
