At Christmas Time

Story Behind The Song

I have always wanted to write a Christmas song like the "standards" of the 30's, 40's and 50's. The chord structure of this song has its origins there. The lyrics are pretty timeless - it could be any Christmas - from the 1920's until today. The idea for the song was based on a reversal of the idea behind the classic "I'll Be Home For Christmas". In this case the person at is at home - and wishes to have a loved one back in time for Christmas.

Song Description

Everyone wants their loved ones home for Christmas. These days families are separated by geography - troops overseas, sons and daughters move away to find work, geography more and more separates families. If we can't have our loved ones home for Christmas we can find Christmas - and those loved ones - in our hearts.

Lyrics

At Christmas Time

It's Christmas time again
I hope you're here by then
Gifts and cheer
And some arms to hold you near
At Christmas time

Please say you'll find a way
To make it Christmas day
Our sweet home
Full of love and mistletoe
Oh I miss you
Want to kiss you at Christmas time

Don't you know
That everywhere I go
I hear carols and sleigh bells chime
It's just a show
Those lights can't match the glow
You feel inside at Christmas time

So if this year we're apart
Let's have Christmas in our heart
When cold winds blow
There's a place that you can go
And wherever you are
We're together not far
This December
You'll be with us at Christmas time
