Lyrics
I grew up in the east side of Oakland California, not an easy place to be
But there I learned to love all the branches of the human family
I'd take a bus to the hills and a walk in the park beneath the stillness of a giant redwood tree
A little taste of heaven and how life used to be
Well I've had many good times and made lots of friends
Traveling this world to its far distant ends.
With all that I've learned I've got one thing to say:
The great Pacific Northwest forest is where I'll stay.
Nature always had a hold on me, flowing up into me from the ground.
I thought I knew my way around, big man about town, until from the north I heard a soothing sound.
So I set sail for the promised land, following those 101 road signs
Until I reached my destination, north of that Humboldt county line.
Well I've had many good times and made lots of friends
Traveling this world to its far distant ends.
With all that I've learned I've got one thing to say:
The great Pacific Northwest forest is where I'll stay.
Hundreds of nations for a thousand generations lived in peace and protected this land
But now 400 years of holocaust and clear cuts leaves the fate of this place in our hands.
To the land of the sweet weed where the ocean meets the trees I pledge allegiance until my dying day.
We'll make a human wall to hold back the desert of greed, from Alaska to the San Francisco Bay
(And from Big Sur up to BC, yeah)
Well I've had many good times and made lots of friends
Traveling this world to its far distant ends.
With all that I've learned I've got one thing to say:
The great Pacific Northwest forest is where I'll stay.
