Story Behind The Song
Misled by a cute blonde girl from Salt Lake City, Coyote was persuaded to pull up his roots from California where he was a successful photographer with a folk rock band, Coyote Graveyard. He'd graduated UCLA fillm school and was working in commericals, feature films, and music videos, but his girlfriend convinced him that she could bring him fame and fortune if he'd move to her homeland. After a few months of not being able to get a job in the film industry, without a band, without his many contacts and connections in the record business he'd worked a decade to create--his girlfriend dumped him. Homeless, living out of his car with his cat, without a job, without friends, and without any family to support or help him, he found work in a prison teaching Tai Chi. Living in a run down apartment amidst drunken indians and drug dealers, The Hippy Coyote finally found enough peace of mind to write and record this song, 5th South.
Song Description
500 South, or 5th South, is the street The Hippy Coyote lived on in Salt Lake City, Utah. This song represents the ups and downs, trials and tribulations, struggles and contentment, that our long-haired Zen Buddhist Hippie endured and was strengthened by. The hardships shaped our freedom loving renaissance man into a spiritual person who matured into the best flutist in Utah and was considered to be a Buddha by the asian communities who heralded him each year in Chinese New Year festivals. Even the governor of Utah complimented him...
