Story Behind The Song
Many of my influences are literary, this one may have its roots in THE WORLD ACCORDING TO GARP, in which Garp is conceived when his nurse mother mounts a comatose soldier waiting to die. It is timely and timeless in it its reference to the tragedy of young boys killing and dying while romantic in a weird way at the same time.
Song Description
Slow, pained, indictment of war and young boys dying. Great guitar solo from Dave Cabrera, very visual song with sexual overtones

Lyrics
NURSE
A YOUNG BOY FROM THE HEARTLAND, SEES THE HIGHER GROUND.
WITNESS TO HIS SAD WAR, KNOWS HE?S GOIN? DOWN.
DOCTOR TURNS TO FACE A YOUNG NURSE,
SO THE FARMBOY, HE CAN?T HEAR.
SAYS TO MAKE HIS JOURNEY EASY, WHEN THE END COMES, I?LL BE NEAR.
MAKE HIS JOURNEY EASY, WHEN THE END COMES, WE?LL BE NEAR.
YOUNG BOY FROM THE HEARTLAND, OUT OF BODY, FLOATIN? FREE.
HIS MINUTES TURN TO HOURS, WHY?S THIS HAPPENIN? TO ME?
REGRETS FOR ALL THE PLACES HE WON?T EVER SEE OR GO.
NEVER TASTE THE LOVE OF WOMAN, NEVER WATCH A MAN-CHILD GROW.
NEVER TASTE THE LOVE OF WOMAN, FOR A CHILD HE?LL NEVER KNOW.
NURSE DISPENSES MEDICATION FROM INSTRUCTIONS ON A BOARD.
?MORPHINE?, SAYS THE DOCTOR, ?WHILE HE WAITS TO MEET HIS LORD.?
IN THE SOLACE OF THE DARK NIGHT, SHE STEALS INTO HIS ROOM.
CHECKIN? TWICE TO SEE THERE?S NO ONE,
JUST A SHADOW CROSS THE MOON.
CHECKIN? TWICE TO SEE THERE?S NO ONE,
HER ACCOMPLICE IS THE MOON.
SHE STEPS INSIDE THE CURTAIN, SETS HER CAP UPON THE CHAIR.
LAYS HER CRISP WHITE DRESS ACROSS IT,
SHE UNPINS HER LONG, DARK HAIR.
FOLDING BACK THE COVERS, NOT A FEELING OF REMISS,
AS THE FARMBOY SIGHS A SOFT MOAN, SHE ADMINISTERS A KISS.
AS THE YOUNG BOY SIGHS A SOFT MOAN, SHE MINISTERS HER KISS.
(INSTRUMENTAL BREAK)
SOMEWHERE IN THE DARK NIGHT, THE YOUNG BOY SLIPS AWAY.
DOCTOR NOTICES A SMILE THERE, ON HIS PALE AND WISTFUL FACE.
THE YOUNG NURSE DOES HER DUTY,
HIS EFFECTS ARE WRAPPED AND TIED.
WIPES A TEAR THAT NOONE?S NOTICED,
FOR WHILE ONE YOUNG BOY HAS DIED,
GRATEFUL TEAR THAT NOONE?S NOTICED,
NOW THE YOUNG BOY LIVES INSIDE.
