The Country Called Me Home

Story Behind The Song

I wrote this song one night when I was sitting outside on my in-laws porch. We live out in the country and sitting outside, taking it all in, inspired me to write about the beauty of living in the country.

Song Description

The writer was born in the city but always enjoyed doing things that are associated w/ a country way of life, like fishing. When he got older he moved to the country and the song describes the laid back country way of life and the beauty of the country.

Lyrics

I used to sit up late at night and watch the cars fly by, I could not wait til the morning when me and my brother would go to the river and cast our line. We grew up on the wrong side of the tracks, I knew that once we got to where we were going soon the sun would set and we'd have to go back.
Chorus
Oh as time moved on it just got strong, it didn't take long til the country called me one of it's own, til the country called me one of it's own.
I still love those city lights, but they can not compare to the stars in the heavens when you step outside on a country night. And I'll take a long country road, over sitting in my truck, stuck in traffic waiting two hours just to get home.
Chorus
Oh as time moved on, it just got strong, it didn't take long til the country called me one of it's own, til the country called me one of it's own.
Now here I sit playing this old guitar. I got a house on an acre a four wheel drive and I finally know who my neighbors are. Every once in awhile I gotta go to town, but I love where I'm going at the end of the day when that big ol sun finally touches down.
Amended Chorus
Oh as time moved on it just got strong, it didn't take long now the country calls me one of it's own, now the country calls me one of it's own. I was born in the city, but the country called me home. I knew I'd end up where I belonged.
