China

Story Behind The Song

A good friend of mine came back from travelling through Africa with the 'hey china' and I thought I must write a song around that.

Song Description

The word 'China' is a South African colloquialism for 'hey man' or a casual greeting e.g. 'hey china'. The song is about my own beliefs about me and the world that affects me. The song makes reference to super natural ideas, the coming together of the bad and good e.g." ten to three I begin to see kings and stallions...." 3am referring to the witching hour and 3pm referring the to time of Christ?s Crucifixion, another example being the union of chivalry and devilry and the concept of their offspring. The song also covers bits of me that I?m not aware of till after the song writing process.

Lyrics

Can you smell the day
You were born
When you were ripped and you were torn from your mother?s womb
Into a land
Of helpless gloom
Where honesty is just a passing sea
Of shocking half verities
Of life
Yeah that?s right
Of life

Now there?s a place I know
Where it?s hard to grow
Up into a man not afraid to show his living hope
A foetus poet
Unafraid to know it
Racing raging river rhyme
Scrapping by on chicken rinds
And in this land
Slaps a cruel hand
Where the mind frail are sent to jail
Rape your thoughts get out on bail
Shouting loud
Lord
We?re free and proud
Staring at a placid sky
A different view through your acid eyes
That?s right
Yeah that?s life
That?s right

Can you see the trees where chivalry breeds
Making love to devilry
Baring a child called destiny
Running free
Twisting loose
To drink my soul
To tie my noose
Taking this love to a bottle of booze
That?s right
Yeah that?s life
That?s right

I thought I saw reflections lying
I thought I saw death dying
I thought I heard the judges crying
China I sentence you to life
China I sentence you to life
China I sentence you to life
China I sentence you to life

Now it?s last call
When the harlequin falls
Breaking the laws of laughter by joking the jester
And there?s a bar room brawl
When his eyes begin to crawl
Rolling down a rocky road
Hit by a truck with a heavy load
And I?m thinking no
As reality folds
Back to normality
Ten to three I begin to see
Kings and stallions
And light battalions
Marching on my fading sight
Cutting through the butter night
That?s right
Yeah that?s life
That?s right
That?s right
Yeah that?s life
That?s right

I thought I saw reflections lying
I thought I saw death dying
I thought I heard the judges crying
China I sentence you to life
China I sentence you to life
China I sentence you to life
China I sentence you to life
China I sentence you to life
