Story Behind The Song
I wrote this to express my strong feelings about Hurricane Katrina and its aftermath. I hope to use the song to garner donations for the relief effort that will be going on for the foreseeable future.

Lyrics
Time Is Of The Essence ©2005 Alan Monasch
Many have walked, many will follow
Many will leave, many will die in the rain
Families cast asunder, many will go under
Many will grieve, will it all be in vain?
Some day you and me will be the ones about to drown
So now's the time to see that what comes down goes around
When time is of the essence
Will we all make it out in time?
When the storm clouds gather in the distance
Will we look out for each other or today's bottom line?
When the road is caked with mud it's too late to nip it in the bud
We can't stay above the flood unless we're already trying
When time is of the essence
Will we all make it out, will we all make it out in time?
Many will want to go but they will not be able
Some will be caught there, some will just stay
Many will not budge, and who are we to judge?
When you have nothing you don't want it taken away
Who looted the land? Who looted the levees?
Who looted the very ground that gave way?
Who looted the lives of our sisters and brothers?
And who are the others who have nothing now to say?
Some day you and me will be the ones about to drown
So now's the time to see that what comes down goes around
When time is of the essence
Will we all make it out in time?
When the storm clouds gather in the distance
Will we look out for each other or today's bottom line?
When the road is caked with mud it's too late to nip it in the bud
We can't stay above the flood unless we're already trying
When time is of the essence
Will we all make it out, will we all make it out in time?
