Story Behind The Song
Fellow BroadJammer, Donovan Tucker, recently received an organ transplant that saved his life. He invited me to co-write a song about it with him.
I was apprehensive at first, due to the personal nature of the song, but when I read the verses he sent, a chorus & bridge came to me within minutes.
Song Description
A song of gratitude that exemplifies the emotion of receiving a life changing gift.

Lyrics

VERSE 1
I can't say I ever met you
But it seems I know you well
A child of God, you walked among us
You left this world with no farewell
Even in your darkest hours
You found a way to shine your light
When you drew your final breath
You started helping me find mine
CHORUS 1
You gave, and now
This troubled heart can rest
I live, somehow
And I won't soon forget
That I got a second chance
To try and be a better man
'Cause you gave me the gift
Solo/fill
VERSE 2
I drop a pebble down a wishing well
Circles ripple to the walls
Reaching out to touch my brothers
Knowing someday I may fall
When I stumbled you raised the bucket
No need for me to make a wish
You were always there beside me
Just in time you gave the gift
CHORUS 2
You gave, and now
This troubled heart can rest
I live, somehow
And I won't soon forget
That I got a second chance
To try to be a better man...
BRIDGE
You're with me every step I take
As I travel life's highway
What you gave means more to me
Than words can ever say
CHORUS 3
You gave, and now
This troubled heart can rest
I live, somehow
And I won't soon forget
When I got a second chance
To try and be a better man
'Cause you gave me... the gift
