Story Behind The Song
This is a bossa nova version of the original straight pop version of this song. The bossa nova has a little bit different form than the other version, and each stands alone. This is part of a larger, interesting (and, I think, innovative) project called "I'm In Love With The City" due for release by Wilfred N & the Grown Men in November, 2012. What you hear here is a nearly-finished recording; nylon string bossa style guitar and a tenor sax solo are yet to be recorded by the end of summer, 2012. Both versions of the song will be released by Wilfred N & the Grown Men on my own label, and this nearly-complete recording will be replaced with the final mixed and mastered version once I have it in my hands! If you wish to hear the other version of the song, which is in a similarly nearly complete state in its recording, please contact me at wilfredn@compusmart.ab.ca
Song Description
There are two versions of this song; this is the bossa nova version, which I'm becoming partial to. The person in the song has separated from his lover. He seems to be content to be a loner and makes the excuse that he doesn't go out because he's too busy and he doesn't really care anyhow. But as we hear him reflecting on how they had been happy together, and wondering what went wrong, it becomes clear that he doesn't go out because he doesn't want to have to deal with running into mutual friends in public.

Lyrics
I don't go out
Too much work that needs to be done
And anyhow, it's my choice
Don't need to have fun
I don't go out
Simply said, I stay in my head
And I'm all right - that's what I said,
I'll be all right
Did I say something I didn't mean?
Don't let rumours ruin our thing
Can't go where I might be seen
I don't go out
Just need a few more days to myself
Sort it out . . . forget the past
Is that too much to ask?
Remember when we laughed at the same things
Remember when we were one and the same
How could we ever let that go?
I knew you and you knew me inside out
We didn't have to go too far to find that out
It was just natural
I don't go out
There is no compromise this time
Unless of course you change your mind
And I change mine
I don't go out
Don't go out alone
But, hey, what about you?
