Story Behind The Song

I wrote this song a few years back. After receiving some positive feedback, I added a few verses and laid it down in the studio. I played all instruments, except the dobro.

Song Description

A fun song that touches upon aspects of the life of a working man in rural America. The protagonist starts by expressing his affection for his wife, who is extremely loving and "pretty damn good with a jigsaw too." He then highlights his worldly possessions: a pickup truck, Coleman lantern, .30-30 rifle, and more. The third verse riffs on "Turkey in the Straw" and "Arkansas Traveler," in which the narrator says he wants to "kick a little ass" and "dance a little jig." In the final verse, Workin' Joe goes fishing but winds up drinking enough corn whiskey to be "seeing double" by night's end. The song contains solos on mandolin, banjo, dobro, and guitar, with nods to legends Bill Monroe, Earl Scruggs, and Byron Berline, as well as great contemporary artists such as Alison Krauss and Billy Strings.
