Lookin' for Beaver

Story Behind The Song

I went down to Mobile alabama with a group of my friends, while we were down there we went to the beach for spring Break. When we got to the beach, all the guys took off and left me with all the beach junk. As I found my spot I picked up a football and was ready to throw it to my best friend, whose nickname is Beaver. As I did this a beautiful girl walked by in a bikini, oiled and tan. As I looked at her for a moment, she completely busted me and Said, "What are you looking at?" and in my nervousness I said, "Ma'am I wasn't lookin at you I was lookin for Beaver!" and she slapped me... Hence the name of the song:)

Lyrics

(Ma'am I Wasn't Looking at You I was) Looking for Beaver
By Scott Wilcox

I grew up in a little bitty town in the heartland
Try to grow up in Wisconsin and call yourself a bluesman
I was lucky to find some friends that would take me
The kind of group of guys that would never forsake me

My best friend's mamma, she's calls him the Beaver
She says she doesn't know why, but we don't believe her
We always liked him anyway but it was so embarrassin' to say.
Ma'am I wasn't looking for you, I was looking for Beaver.

I took my buddies down to, oh down to Mobile
After 9 months of winter you don't know how good the sun feels
I stick my feet into the hot sand a woman comes by all oily and tan and I say I wasn't looking at you I was looking for Beaver.

CHORUS
There was Scotty, Biff and Wally Melvin and Beav
The greatest group of guys that you ever did see
When it comes to buddies I'm a believer
cause ma'am I wasn't looking at you I was looking for Beaver.

So It's like ten years later and I call him on the telephone
It keeps on ringin and ringin I'm thinking nobody's home
Finally his wife she gets on the line amd she says
I'm sorry he ain't home at this time and I say
I wasn't looking for you, no I wasn't looking for you
I was looking for Beaver

BRIDGE
BEAVER I usually start looking at the nearest bar yeah,
Looking for Beaver
CHORUS/ BRIDGE

This is a great song. I liked the vocals and the harmonies. I love the lyrics. The guitars were right on. Good story. I also like the dynamics of the lead vocal. That added a lot of feeling to the song. I hope to guys have good luck with this!!!

It's a good song

OH WOW!--what a great song!--GREAT ONE TO DO LIVE!--i really like the music!--thanxs--joe

You put a smile on my face with this crazy tune. I found it quite original! From Wisconsin to Mobile, you really covered the tracks. I like your kind of humor. The fact that I could understand 100% of your well-written and sung lyrics is commendable. Just gotta tell you though, I couldn't help thinkin' about "Leave it to Beaver" and I know I am dating myself.

good overall groove
