Randy Jackson, American Idol judge, repeatedly stated the difficulty of Wonder's songs. Some of his best known and most frequently covered songs are played in keys which are more often found in jazz than in pop and rock.
For example, "Superstition", "Higher Ground" and "I Wish" are in the key of E flat, and feature distinctive riffs in the E flat minor pentatonic scale (i.e. largely on the black notes of the keyboard).
I recorded this song without benefit of click track, drum machine, or music editing software. I am looking a way to quantize the track. This is my arrangement. I am working on a countermelody that I will lay on top of this track. I had played the song in Eb with transpositions, and picked up Stevie's key for this version...Db to D to Eb...and, yes, I threw in some of those jazz chords!
