Story Behind The Song
I wrote this song with the late George Gary Davis in Tulsa, Oklahoma in the early 1980's George was a Rodeo Cowboy an Actor and a Singer. We mused over how Rodeo and the pursuit of a musical career were much the same. Putting it all out there night after night hoping to make it in the end and the result was this song. The song was originally going to be the theme for a Movie script that George had written. The Idea for the movie faded and my friend George passed away. He had a Champion Heart.

Lyrics
Sometimes it's hard being a Cowboy and you wonder about it all.
From the chances your takin' there's no mistaking' your headed for a fall.
Chorus:
Rodeo Cowboy, your crazy they say, riding long hours for a little short pay.
You keep on hopin' there'll come a day You a Champion when you ride away.
The motels become your house on the hill and the highway's your second home.
But the rodeo has a way of keeping you goin' when your body says you cain't go on.
Repeat Chorus,
Dobro Bridge.
Time passes by and your gettin' old you thought about quittin' a time or two
but the rodeo is buried deep in your soul and the Cowboy will never leave you.
Chorus, Tag out
