Story Behind The Song

As a musician I was thinkin about the whole push and pull of being at home, combined with the love of travelling, and the opposite feelings of the two... our cat was asleep on our back stairs at the time... in fact most of the summer !.. they do 'LAZY' the best don't they?? :> I was picturing the band arrangement as being a back porch kind of affair...

1. Well it's good to be back
I've been gone too long
I'm back to the place that I know
On the stairs with the cat
& I'm sleepin' in the sun
and a whole day with nowhere to go
I'm just hangin' around
Got my foot off the gas
With time to be taking it slow

I'm Back home
Where it's all nice and familiar
Back home
Tell me hows it goin' with ya

1 2
There's things to do Well I don't mind
But not today If the clock winds down
Got friends droppin' by That's just fine cause
Just to say g'day I'm just hangin' around
It's a big blue sky, all full of nothin' I'm in my chair, under my hat
Back home Yeah, I'm back home

2. When I started out, Oh it was great to be free
Down a highway to some place new
He's the fearless explorer, who loves the rock of the sea
Yeah & keeps hunting down new things to do
But then a few more days, and I am turnin' my gaze
And there's only one place I should be ... and that's home
Rpt chorus + 2

Bridge Got my old clothes on
+ my neighbour knocks
He's got all my mail in that old shoebox
I'm opening windows
I'm undoing locks
- Back home

Where it's all nice and familiar
Back home
Tell me hows it goin' with ya
There's things to do
But not today
Got friends comin' by
Just to say g'day

Well I don't mind
If the clock winds down
Because - guess what
I'm not goin' to town
It's a big blue sky, all full of nothin'
Back home Oh...Oh ...

I'm back home mmmm...
