Story Behind The Song
True story - I really did meet a girl in Whitewater WI. She was doing her homework at a coffee shop I used to frequent called the Sweet Spot. We actually did do some singing together at the open mic nights at the Sweet Spot, and even started a mock white stripes cover band called the stripe - etts! She did help me write one of my songs too - the song Blue Sky Indifference started out with her working and me out chord progressions in the courtyard of my apartment building! Well, as the song goes, she did disappear shortly after we met, and I do miss her - hopefully we'll cross paths again someday...
Song Description
Birds and Beehives has a beautifully simple melody which trails along through the narrative of this friendship between two young women. Each verse is a literal description of the two women's encounters as they occurred over the short span of their relationship. The oboe and the piano along with the acoustic guitar give the song a soft peaceful tone, which complements the intimacy of the lyrics.

Lyrics
I met a girl I think I really liked her
she had dark eyes
and a beehive hair style
we met in a coffee shop
I sang all of my songs to her
in the corner
while she studied
she studied her anatomy
I studied her anatomy
she said she really liked my music
and wanted to sing with me
she came over
we made dinner
one day she called me she was crying
all alone in her apartment
I asked her if I could come over
she said yes
She sat all alone like a sad eyed bird
in a treeless word
and she was pitiful
she was bird cage broken
she was bird cage broken
I asked her to help me write my song
her voice had a shadow
then she was gone
I miss her
and her beehive hair style
