Story Behind The Song
I wrote this right before I turned 18. The song tackles the idea that the once cycle/version of life I had always known was about to be gone. Throughout the entirety of growing up, you know life as getting up, going to school, taking Summer break, speaking to the same friends/family each day, etc. I was in a moment of panic about the fact that I would be facing a completely different reality very soon, as I was graduating (without planning to go to college), moving out of my childhood home to live alone, becoming an official adult, and more.

Lyrics
Moving up, moving out
Change was never something I was really about
18 years, 18 ways
To get all you can and go on to better days
Get around, your own selfish haze
Memories are forever, boy, and you've gotta make your own way
Well it's nothing new
This world keeps moving on
Pray I don't have to choose
Between what's left and what is gone
I hope that I'm wrong and I'm just dreaming at midnight
I hope that I'm wrong and I'm just dreaming at 18
Moving up, moving out
How many times can somebody say they're finally free?
'Cause freedom comes, and freedom leaves
And time falls of freedom like a giving tree
Still I'm sitting here, feeling sorry
For the boxes I'm leaving behind, 18 years in a single-file line
Well it's nothing new
This world keeps moving on
Pray I don't have to choose
Between what's left and what is gone
I hope that I'm wrong and I'm just dreaming at midnight
I hope that I'm wrong and I'm just dreaming at 18
Well I hope I'm wrong, and I'm just dreaming at 18
And I'm just... dreaming at 18, dreaming at 18, dreaming....
