This Heart Wants You

Story Behind The Song

Sometimes a song demands to be written. That's how it was with this song. I thought about someone I know who, over time, has come to prefer a drama-free existence to "holding out for love," with all the possible peaks and valleys that can ensue. I, on the other hand, still believe in following one's heart and am willing to weather the storms, along with the glorious sunshine. To each his own!

Lyrics

This Heart Wants You

V1: The lesson I keep learning is to trust myself more
To listen to that voice in me and rest assured
If equal affection is not to be
Please let the more loving one be me
I go where my heart tells me to
'Cause the heart wants what the heart wants
And this heart wants you

V2: I watch you at a distance when you can't see me
Perceived indiscretions have led you to be
So cautious, so careful, so self-restrained
Reluctant to feel an emotion untamed
Too scared to follow through
But the heart wants what the heart wants
And this heart wants you

Bridge: Does that mean you should throw caution to the wind?
Maybe it means you need only try
I wonder if that's all it takes
To follow your heart without questioning why

V3: The lesson I keep learning is to trust myself more
To listen to that voice in me and rest assured
Where the journey leads is not up to me
Wherever I am is where I should be
I know now what I must do
'Cause the heart wants what the heart wants
And my heart wants too
If the mind knows where the heart goes
Then this heart wants you
