Story Behind The Song
I wrote most of this song many years ago when I was experiencing turmoil in a relationship and realized (to my dismay) that I would always come back for more because I obviously believed that a working relationship was possible - otherwise why would I keep having them? Clearly, I am an optimist! When I brought the draft of the song into the studio, Bill Bentley suggested adding a bridge and, as always, his suggestion helped give the song a much-needed finishing touch.

Lyrics
The Optimist
V1: You say I'm always reaching for a shooting star
I should learn to just accept the in-between
While I liken you to moonlight on the water
Or a leaf lazily floating down a stream
I'm not saying one is better than the other
It takes all the parts to make the engine run
Cho: I am the optimist
I look at life and see what I like
I am the optimist
Let go of the rest
V2: What if we're measured by the chances we take
And not how well we stay within the lines?
Maybe then we'd treasure mistakes we make
Appreciate how they come to define us
And so the optimist draws up a list of reasons why
The life you live is worth the price you pay
As season follows disappointing season
You trust it won't always be this way
Cho:
Bridge: When your glass is half full
Think of me and you'll know
Cho:
