Story Behind The Song
You're not going to like this one if you think this song is really about matters of the heart. The true story is that I embarked on a path that was rare for me - jumping into a relationship without my usual caution. Something about him was too enticing to hold back. Well, he experienced an outbreak of something I won't be so crude as to name and, because of our encounter, immediately assumed I was the source. How dare he?!! I, on the other hand, had no idea why he wasn't calling because I was not in need of the salve he was using to assuage the itching. Turns out, his roommate had "borrowed" his bed for an encounter of his own. Should have changed the sheets, dude. I wrote the song, not knowing any of this was happening. Once I learned what was behind the phone silence, I gave the song the sub-title of "The Crab Song." Got it now?

Take Back Your Heart
V1: It happened last night, love
I turned on the light, love
And saw you in spite of your being nowhere around
I thought I could face it
With some semblance of grace
That I could somehow replace you with a new one I found
It didn't work out like I wanted
It's only now that you're gone
I see, I knew all along
It was wrong to think that you could belong to
Someone who needs a song to life her feet off the ground
V2: It all seems so fleeting
One moment we are meeting
Treating each other the best way we can
And then, just like lightning
But, oh, much more frightening
We start losing sight of the lifetime we planned
I see the curtain, it's closing
And before our show has begun
We've already come to the part, love
You take back your heart, love
Go back to the start and try it again
We've come to the part, love
You take back your heart, love
Go back to the start and try it again
